Anja discovered her passion for wine whilst working at the iconic Hotel Bareiss in Baiersbronn / Black Forest, Germany. Following stints at Hotel Louis C. Jacob in Hamburg, Gordon Ramsay’s Maze and Zuma in London, Anja became Head Sommelier at the Ledbury restaurant. During that time, the 2 Michelin-starred restaurant gained many awards, for example 10th best restaurant in the world by the San Pellegrino 50 Best Restaurant Awards in 2014, best restaurant in UK in 2014 by Observer Food monthly, and winner of the National Restaurant Awards in 2012.

In 2017 Anja started her own business as independent sommelier, and amongst others created the complete wine and spirits programme for the opening of “Core by Clare Smyth”.

Anja is now putting all her expertise and experience in restaurants, into her role as purchasing manager at Philglas & Swiggot, who have long been her personal favourite independent wine merchant.

Anja holds the WSET (Wines and Spirits Education Trust) Diploma and is Wine Educator up to Level 3. She holds the Advanced Certificate of the Court of Master Sommeliers and currently prepares for her final Master Sommelier Exam.
