Located on Australia’s west coast in Perth, Lalla Rookh presents itself as a humble city local, inviting diners and drinkers into its courtyard, lounge, and bar areas. The menu is orchestrated by head chef Alexandra Haynes, who echoes her love and experiences of Italy through each dish that is produced using local fresh ingredients.
Leading the wine program is sommelier and wine store manager Jeremy Prus MW, who is considered one of the top sommeliers in Australia. Prus’s interest in regional producers and natural wines is reflected in the wine lists both in the bar and at the wine store. Judges of the World’s Best Wine Lists 2017 said that the list embodied an, “eclectic mix”, that was “energetic”. The contemporary Italian menu is paired with an equally excellent wine selection that is extensive in its coverage of local regions like Margaret River, Mt Barker, Barossa, and the Yarra Valley, and covers great Italian reds, from Tuscany, Piedmont, Friuli, Alto Adige, and more.
