Stephen Brook:Although deep in color, this is showing some slight evolution. The nose is quite oaky and initially had an odd rubbery tone that diminished with aeration. Still, it is reticent, and the fruit doesn’t soar from the glass. Broad, lush, and concentrated, the palate shows big, ripe tannins and some sweetness of fruit. While quite dramatic, there’s also a slight coarseness reminiscent of the burly 2000. It lacks some finesse and cut, but it’s a vigorous and exciting wine, if not a great 1990.
