SF | Very much in the ascendant, its magnificently situated vineyards as pleasing aesthetically as they are in terms of the taste of the final wine, Clos Fourtet has produced another exceptional wine in 2019. Modest aeration blows away the cobwebs and the aromatic is pure and resonant; fruit, smoke and just a hint of herb and garrigue...the palate is upstanding, honest and very forthright. So forward so soon? Why not; such is the attitude of the tannins and the disciplined clasp of the acidity. Composed, rounded and eloquent. 93
AJ | Dense, dark, saturated black-red. Fine elements in play here, with a notably fresh, cologne-bright appeal over a creamy substrate of crushed cassis. Just a little ground pepper, too. Pristine and magnetic aromas. On the palate, this is a wonderfully complete wine, built of course on a core of piercing blue fruit with ample cream, citrus peel and limestone-pebble complexity packed around it; in due course there will be other nuances The tannins are very fine and the acidity is bright, and there are some cleansing bitter notes on the finish. It urgently needs more storage, but what is packed in here for the time being is hugely impressive.Drink Dates: 2025 - 2050. 95
MS | Refinedly black cherry sweet to smell, a touch of minerals as well; full, fresh, finely tannic, an excellent balance; a very nice depth of fruit here, rich and fleshy, long and complex, subtle and racy across the palate, an elegant, imposing, classy Clos Fourtet, with a lovely, prolonged fruit fragrant persistence. A beautifully complete and harmonious expression of this wine. So gracefully proportioned that it will drink with pleasure early, but so harmoniously balanced it will doubtless improve for ages too. Drink Dates: 2030 - 2050+. 94
