AJ | Dark, dense black-red (though less saturatedly so than Ormes). Earthy, warm, savoury and full -- exciting wine. It seems to have set off on its ageing journey a little earlier than its peers ... in that it is both beginning to be secondary in its allusions, yet remains primary and arresting at its fruit core. Dark and alluring -- and built along the lines of 2019's beautiful railway-train classicism. On the palate, pristine, pure, long, driving, sheer and intense: a remarkable de Pez, completely off the charts for anything that I remember from this property in terms of its intensity, drive, concentration, sobriety and, well, authority. This would certainly be cru classe level wine in most vintages. A super buy; startling stuff.Drink Dates: 2025 - 2040. 92
MS | Quite densely red and black fruit on the nose, with clear gravel impressions and that slightly ‘noble’ herbal character; full, supple yet fresh, finely tannic with a nice concentration of fruit; easy, juicy, flavoursome wine, gently gravel-backed, with an attractive tannic grip and excellent light length. Satisfyingly toothsome St Estèphe already. Drink Dates: 2024 - 2033+. 89
