Deservedly shortlisted for the Best Wine List in North America at the 2013 World’s Best Wine List awards, the “gorgeous” list at New York City’s Colicchio & Sons was praised by the judges for its “personality, its wise and confident choices, and the way it communicates everything with such enthusiasm.”
It’s a list, those judges continued, that offers “plenty of ways for the customer to explore,” and offers good, fair pricing, too. “You can ‘win’ here,” said Francis Percival, “you can go in and feel like you’re getting a deal.”
Among the many highlights are a compact but diverse by-the-glass program, a set of mature California Cabernet, and a fine array of eastern French wines that includes a focus on top Alsace producer Domaine Zind Humbrecht.
But it’s a list that roams the world, placing the big names of classical Europe alongside emerging stars, and with plenty of choice to match chef Tom Colicchio’s menu of small plate modern American dishes based on seasonal ingredients from a roster of top suppliers.
