Best Short Wine List in Australasia
Described by World’s Best Wine Lists 2015 senior judge Alder Yarrow as “excellent,” Melbourne’s Epocha was a unanimous winner of the Best Short Wine List in Australasia 2015, earning plaudits for the intelligence, care, and sheer good taste that had gone into its short but unremittingly focused selection.
“It’s great by the glass,” Yarrow said, “And there’s pretty darn good curation that’s gone on here throughout. There are some really cute things, Canary Island whites, two five-star Austrian Rieslings, likewise the Rheinhessen Rieslings. There’s a Romanian Pinot Grigio …”
An exclusively European list, with a focus on small and biodynamic producers, “it’s full of good and great producers,” added Elin McCoy. “A really interesting selection,” that runs from Thivin in Beaujolais to Elena Walch in Alto-Adige, and from Albert Boxler in Alsace to Pereira d’Oliveira in Madeira, and which provides plenty of scope to match the menu with its “strong European roots.”
