One Tree Grill embodies down-to-earth, gourmet dining in its upmarket suburban location in Epsom, just minutes from Auckland city center.
The contemporary menu fuses European and New Zealand cuisine, focusing on simplicity and the finest execution. One Tree Grill sports a “confident” wine list that has been very well-assembled, according to the judges at the 2017 World’s Best Wine Lists.
A stand out element for the judges was the wide-ranging selection of by-the-glass options, where over two pages have been dedicated. By-the-glass choices include local wines Prophet’s Rock Dry Riesling, Central Otago 2013; Clos De Ste. Anne Chardonnay, Gisborne 2014, for example, and Champagne by-the-glass in the form of Collet Art Deco. Preservation methods have been incorporated using Coravin, and include Marc Bredif Grand Année Vouvray 1997; Allexant Beaune Bressandes 1er Cru, Burgundy 2006; and Craggy Range Le Sol, Hawke’s Bay 2009.
The restaurant pays attention to environment-awareness, and concept also instilled in the wine list with labels like Carrick Pinot Noir (Central Otago). Naturally, the list is heavily focused on New Zealand wine but Europe and Australia are not overlooked and include Penfolds Bin 707, 1993; Château Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac, 2002; and Château Cheva Blanc, St Emillion 2002, for instance.
