Boulevard

By Thierry Dessauve

Since opening in 1993, chef-patron Nancy Oakes’ Belle Epoque-referencing San Francisco bistro has become a fixture on the San Francisco dining scene. Located in the Embracadero waterfront district, the menu originally looked to France for inspiration, although the current menu, based as ever on high-quality regional American ingredients, is more eclectic, with elaborate dishes such as grilled Hawaiian swordfish with Persian cucumber, celtuce, strawberry daikon, and herb tabouleh with baby Roma tomatoes and taggiasca olives, spring mix, and preserved lemon relish.

Eclectic also describes the wine list, an extensive, joyous selection where the classic rubs shoulders with the new-wave, the Old World with the New: from Seghesio’s Russian River version of the Piemontese grape Arneis, to well-chosen vintages from the grand names of Burgundy such as Ramonet and Leflaive.
