Re Ká Ta Beach Club Phuket Thailand

By Thierry Dessauve

Arranged by style, and with headings such as “Crisp Red Wines on The Beach,” there is a glossy, frothy feel to the presentation of Phuket, Thailand’s Re Ká Ta Beach Club’s wine list. That’s only to be expected given that it serves “Phuket’s only true beach club,” a place that “parties from just past sunrise to the midnight hour.”

Scratch beneath the lightweight surface, however, and you’ll see a serious palate has been at work, seeking out matches for chef Bryan Burger’s international menu at the club’s Beachfront Restaurant—billed as “Phuket’s healthiest gourmet restaurant.”

On a 200-bin list that goes for a broad spread of countries rather than opting to specialize in a single area, mature highlights include New Zealand producer Fromm’s La Strada Pinot Noir, Marlborough 2007; star Languedoc producer Château de la Negly La Falaise 2004; and Jermann Vintage Tunnia 2003 from Friuli—all of them, no doubt, enhanced for being consumed on the “postcard perfect, palm-fringed Kata Beach.”
