The World of Fine Wine Tasting Notes database offers a 20-year archive of blind-assessed wines, featuring up to three individually authored reviews per bottle. Each note is crafted by leading critics—including 10 Masters of Wine and a World Sommelier Champion—under the most exacting tasting conditions.

What Sets Us Apart

  1. Blind Tastings, Elevated
    • Apart from notes made during producer tastings or visits—such as Michael Schuster’s unparalleled Bordeaux en primeur reports over nearly 20 vintages—all our notes are made on wines tasted “single blind”: the identity of the producers is hidden, ensuring an unbiased judgment based solely on what’s in the glass, without any influence from the label, price, or reputation.
  2. Three Voices, One Wine
    • Three tasters—normally one acknowledged specialist and two experienced generalists—work their way through the wines, simultaneously entering their comments and scores straight into a computer database. To guarantee the accuracy and integrity of the process, there is no conferring among the tasters; nor do we permit comments or scores to be altered subsequently. Rather than settle for anonymous and/or composite notes, we attribute all comments and scores individually to the tasters and reproduce them in full, alongside the average scores. This format combines the advantages of an individual authority with the benefits of an established expert panel, where a range of views can be expressed.
  3. Precision Over Volume
    • We draw on a permanent panel of respected and talented tasters, including ten Masters of Wine and a former World Sommelier Champion. Many of the tasters are leading authorities in their field, including Essi Avellan MW, Anne Krebiehl MW, John Livingstone-Learmonth, Richard Mayson, Jasper Morris MW, Stephan Reinhardt, Michael Schuster, and Tom Stevenson, while others are experienced generalists, such as Simon Field MW, Andrew Jefford, Jancis Robinson MW, Anthony Rose, and David Williams. Their number is deliberately restricted so that they appear as frequently as possible; and in the few instances when their personal preferences are not already well known, they quickly become so. To reduce the risk of palate fatigue, we strictly limit the number of wines tasted in a session, and tasters proceed at their own pace over several hours, allowing for unparalleled concentration, depth, and insight. This is more than a wine database. It’s a guided journey through the world’s most remarkable bottles, from classic as well as up-and-coming regions—one that evolves with you.
