Buckland Manor

By Alex Hunt MW

Based in a Cotswold manor house that dates back to the 13th century, Buckland Manor is a luxurious country house hotel with one of the best hotel restaurants in the UK.

Using produce from its own gardens and local suppliers, the Buckland kitchen offers smart modern fine dining in elegant dishes such as seared scallop with grilled sardine, hazelnut pesto, celery jelly, and winter truffle, or breast of partridge, onion and Port puree, creamed leek, confit leg sausage, and baby beets.

The manor’s fine old wine cellar, meanwhile, offers plenty of space for an excellent, wide-ranging list that is strong in both classical Europe and in emerging, more leftfield selections.

And so there is space at Buckland Manor for the best of South West France (Domaine Ilaria from Irouléguy, Clos Lapeyre from Jurançon) as well as a fine compilation of mature classed-growth claret, while the stars of California, New Zealand, and Australia are given equal billing to an imaginative set of Italian and Spanish producers.
