Shapley’s
Chef-patron Scott Koestler has been attracting rave reviews for the wine offer at Shapley’s since he assumed control of the restaurant in Mississippi’s Jackson area in 1998. Its reputation for quality and depth shows no sign of slacking, with the award of three-stars at the World’s Best Wine Lists for what the judges called a “top selection of wines.”
Featuring more than 750 bins, the list kicks off with an extensive set of Californians, including a number of verticals from top producers such as Heitz, Dominus, Shafer, and Colgin. Highlights of the no-less impressive French selection include flights of the Bordeaux first growths and Guigal’s “la la” crus from Côte-Rôtie, while Australia is clearly another passion, as shown in selections of Penfolds Grange, Clarendon Hills Australis Vineyard, and Torbreck RunRig Shiraz.
Topped off with an unusually varied selection of dessert wines— from Inniskillin Vidal Icewine to a set of Kracher Trockenbeerenauslesen and Sine Qua Non The Straw Man—the list is a fitting complement for the high-quality steaks and seafood of Shapley’s American fine-dining menu.
