Situated in Auckland, Meat Fish Wine is the sister to its eponymous restaurant based in Melbourne. The wine list references over 500 labels and has a focus on local New Zealand wines. The wine team sources from small local suppliers as well as renowned international houses. The list is easy to consult, and judges at the World’s Best Wine Lists 2017 commented that there was, “Satisfaction by the glass”, observing its two-page collection. Each grape variety has a presence, and a number of regions listed, for example the choice of Riesling ranges from Rippon ‘Mature Vine’ Central Otago 2013; to 2014 Dönnhoff ‘Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle’ Großes Gewächs Nahe.
The wine offering comes in many formats, including half glasses, half bottles and magnums, such as Billaud-Simon ‘Vaillons’ Chablis Premier Cru 2012 (half), and Penfolds ‘Grange Bin 95’1994 (magnum). The premium whites and reds sections use Coravin as a preservation method 9available as 75ml or 150ml), with labels such as Clos de Ste. Anne ‘Les Arbres’ Viognier, Gisborne NZ, 2014; Pascal Cotat ‘Les Monts Damnés’ Sauvignon Blanc Sancerre 2012; and The Prisoner Wine Company Zinfandel, Napa Valley, 2013, available.
Great attention is dedicated to the spirits section, and a Champagne cocktail pays tribute to London’s Royal Chelsea Flower Show, UK.
