Philémon Bar

By Thierry Dessauve

Philémon Bar

Philémon Bar is situated in Montreal, encompassing a casual dining atmosphere with a well-executed menu. The bar is vibrant and welcoming; with a great team to further enhance the lively and warm ambiance. The drinks list includes a little of everything, but is short and sweet, with dishes to match such as beef tartare, Moroccan ribs, and king oyster mushrooms, for example.

The wine list focuses on organic wines, and judges of the World’s Best Wine Lists 2017 commented that the wine list is, “basic and inspirational” and “earthy”. Spirits are given attention, with variations of agave (mezcal escorpión “espadín” reposado), gin (barr hill (vermont)), and rum (ron barcelo gran anejo, rep. dominicaine). The wine list is small but covers the fundamentals with some interesting options, too. Wines are focused on Italy and France, with additions from Greece, Quebec, and Spain. Other options include Cidre de Fer 2015 Jacques Perritaz, Cidrerie du Vulcain; and Vino da Tavola Emilia, Dinavolino 2014, Denavolo, Italy, with some available in a variety of formats including magnum, bottle and jeroboam (Franciacorta Brut ‘Animante’ Barone Pizzini).
