In a lakeside location with fine mountain views, the Romantik Hotel Säntis in Appenzell houses one of Switzerland’s favorite fine-dining restaurants.
The cuisine is classically Swiss, even a little retro, in the shape of dishes such as Chateaubriand, chopped veal Zürich-style, or white asparagus with Hollandaise sauce, while the service is famously impeccable.
The wine list, meanwhile, is a draw in itself. Running to some 90 tightly packed pages, it contains, according to the judges at the World’s Best Wine Lists 2015 “a very impressive range with good depth of top producers.”
Truly global in its coverage, diners are just as likely to find highlights in the extensive Californian and Australian sections they are in France, Italy, and Spain, while the best of the local Swiss scene is also well represented.
