Rustico Tapas Bar

By Thierry Dessauve

Since 2010 a small slice of Spain on Australia’s West Coast can be found at Rustico Tapas & Bar. Perched on Rockingham Foreshore, the restaurant boasts two Gold Plate Awards for its ‘Mediterranean Casual Dining’. The wine list is simple, concise, and authentic, and is composed of over 50 labels that focus on Spain, Barossa, and Margaret River regions. The tapas-style cuisine matches seamlessly with a fine collection of wines – wines which go beyond its casual dining stamp. A relaxed ethos channels the Spanish lifestyle with an innovative menu using local Australian produce. The wine list is neatly presented and includes concise descriptions to give unacquainted guests an indication, while labels such as Vasse Felix Chardonnay, Torres Rosé Garnacha, and Babo Sangiovese, have a presence, in addition to an additional, refined reserve wines menu featuring Peel Estate’s Old Vine Shiraz 2009 and Zinfandel 2011, plus Coudoulet de Beaucastel Côtes du Rhone 2012.

The judges of the 2017 World’s Best Wine Lists awarded Rustico Tapas & Bar a coveted three-star award in its first appearance in the competition, endorsing the restaurant for its, “no fuss” attitude, clarity and authenticity, where the genuine dining and service suit the establishment, and its clients.
