Salty Pidgin

By Thierry Dessauve

Salty Pidgin is based near central Wellington, New Zealand. Its ethos surrounding a passion for fresh, local ingredients is clear, with its seasonal menu and award-winning kitchen team. The same quality and meticulous detail is applied to the wine and drinks list, too, with an ever-changing selection of craft beers, over 150 wine references, and at least 30 wines available by the glass. At the World’s Best Wine Lists 2017 Judges commented that the Salty Pidgin wine list was, “short, essential, and practical,” not to mention it was, “lovely to read”. The wine list has a strong focus on organic, biodynamic, and single vineyard wines selected locally from New Zealand and also from Europe. Some examples include De La Terre Syrah 2014, Sherendon, Hawkes Bay (single vineyard); Whyte Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2016, Marlborough (organic); Marcel Deiss Pinot D’Alsace, Alsace, Fr (biodynamic); and Rippon ‘Mature Vine’ Pinot Noir 2012, Wanaka, Central Otago (single vineyard, biodynamic), to name just a few.
