Senso Ristorante & Bar

By Thierry Dessauve

Set in a former convent on Singapore’s 21 Club Street, Senso Ristorante & Bar has been serving up its take on authentic Italian cuisine for 15 years now, becoming a firm local favorite in the process.

Known for classic dishes such as ossobucco and fresh lobster lasagna and for its impeccable service, Senso is also the proud possessor of one of Asia’s best wine lists.

As might be expected from the cuisine, the list is predictably strong in Italy, taking in intelligent choices from the length of the country, from northern whites such as Abbazzia di Novacella Praespositivs Kerner in Alto-Adige and Vie de Romans Flor de Uls in Friuli, to southern reds such as Apollonio Negroamaro in Puglia and Donnafugata Mille e Una Notte in Sicily, via the big-guns of Tuscany (Sassicaia, Ornellaia, Biondi-Santi) and mature Piedmont (Giacomo Conterno 1999, Fontanafredda back to 1958).

But there’s more to the Senso list than Italy. A deep range of Bordeaux and several unexpected choices from Lebanon, Japan, and Switzerland complete the picture on a diverse and surprisingly eclectic list.
