Simon Field: finely wrought, elegant, and distinguished of bearing; far too much breeding to share a rhapsody of fruit-forward joy, yet with impressively eloquent tannins in support, softened a little, of course, by the intervening years, but still strident, upstanding; a clean finish and imperious of outlook. A distinctly vinous character underwritten by dark honey and velvet: very complete. | 90
Andrew Jefford: Clear dark black-red. Lots of cherry in the aromas of this Port, with just a touch of herbaceousness lurking behind there somewhere, and some tea-leaf freshness, too. Sweet, fresh, and lively, with lots of leafiness to the sweet blackcurrant fruits, and in contrast to the nose this does not seem “herbaceous” but rather a hint of the classic Darjeeling (Touriga Nacional). It’s a relatively soft-textured Port now, and I wouldn’t keep it much longer, but it will provide much pleasure over the next half-decade. The aftertaste is complex and long. | 89
Richard Mayson: Mid-deep center, browning on the rim; demure or just hollow on the nose, though a hint of dark chocolate emerging; soft and elegant initially, summer fruit with lovely definition and purity, gentle spicy tannins and milk-chocolate richness on the finish. Quite forward. Gentle, with lovely balance. Drink now and over the next 20 years. | 89
