Stephen Brook | Waxy lime and apple nose, with a whiff of talcum powder. Rich and bold on the attack, full-bodied and weighty, with decisive fruitiness. Yet there’s no lack of acidity and extract. This shows a solid style, not very nuanced, but well balanced and satisfying. A bit of a blunt instrument compared to some other wines here, but long and convincing. | 89

Andrew Jefford | Very pale steel-white. Lots of sweet planty character here: fresh tobacco leaf before it has reached the curing barn; a beech hangar in spring. Very enticing and attractive scents. This Chêne Marchand series comes just after the Grande Côte, and they are very different in shape and outline: more svelte, poised, and nimble. There’s still plenty of “stone” character among the fresh, planty fruits, and this is a wine of great purity and great detail, too. The tautness just leaves a little point of glowing bitterness on the finish. | 91

Stephan Reinhardt | Deep, concentrated, and rich on the nose, with ripe, bright fruit aromas and a kiss of oak, this is a rich and powerful, densely structured Sancerre, with a Burgundian texture, fine tannins, and a discreet acidity. Salty on the long and stimulating refreshing finish, yet pretty powerful. Needs food—fish, I’d say. | 91
