Stephen Brook | Delicate lime and apple nose, full of charm if not explosively aromatic. Rich and flamboyant, much riper than the nose suggests, but there’s a tangy chalky character behind the powerful apple and citrus fruit. This shows spice and pep, and ample vigor despite the ripeness. This has heft and weight without being heavy-handed. A big style of Sancerre, but it’s balanced and it works. Long. | 93
Andrew Jefford | Limpid clear silver-gold. This has a much less reductive aroma set than almost all of the wine’s peers, against which it seems a little flat (though not actually oxidative for me); possibly a choice of some sort on the producer’s part? After five minutes in the glass, it has settled further into that role, so not “fresh” but open, aromatically passive. On the palate, the wine is smooth, pure, shapely, with ample plant and fruit notes commingled; sound and concentrated, but just a little bit uneventful. | 87
Stephan Reinhardt | A dense and somewhat clumsy nose, with intense, super-ripe fruit aromas, leading into a full-bodied and concentrated, somewhat nutty, and on the finish, pretty mature, palate, with lots of power and grippy tannins. This is a pretty unique style of Mont Damnés, whose lingering salinity and crunchy vitality is remarkable and balances the richness and power. It does not, however, really stimulate me to have a second glass. | 90
