Stephen Brook | Ripe and strident grapefruit nose, but no vegetal tone. Rich and silky, this has admirable concentration and firm underlying acidity. There’s volume on the palate, and perhaps a lack of precision and bite, making this solid rather than exciting, earthy rather than mineral. Ripe and enjoyable, and with only moderate length on the finish. | 87
Andrew Jefford | Pale silver-gold. Fresh, clean, discreet but perfectly focused aromas of summer leaf and warm stones; little fruit in this aromatic profile, by contrast. With five minutes in the glass, it loses some of its freshness and precision and flattens out a little. On the palate, this is bright, fresh, elegant, and intense, with ample stoniness and once again, as the aromas suggested, with little primary fruit; a more developed and secondary style in general; full ripeness. Mouth-filling and (almost) chewy, and I like that. | 89
Stephan Reinhardt | Elegant and subtle on the refined and crunchy nose of crushed stones, with a good (if perhaps not perfect) level of ripeness and some dried-fruit aromas. This is an intense and nutty, pretty astringent and challenging Monts Damnés, which to its credit combines power and richness with finesse and a rather fine acidity but lacks the coolish, pure, and refreshing character of the finest examples in this tasting. The finish is slightly bitter and dry and not really stimulating. But this does still need some years to improve. | 88
