Michel Bettane and Thierry Desseauve | A grandiose expression of the year’s sun, a marvelously velvety texture, no feeling of alcohol regardless of its out-of-the-ordinary level, length, unique fruit for its class and its breadth in the mouth—this wine will be legendary. | 98
Michael Schuster | fine, discreet, subtle, crisply black-fruit ripe to smell; rich, concentrated, vital, finely and firmly tannic, a substantial long-term constitution; very sweetly ripe, ample, generous, mouthfilling, powerful almost to the point of pain if one is sensitive to that power, and yet, clearly fine; subtly complex, long and close-grained to taste, elegant, poised, and with a long, aromatic aftertaste. An impressive performance, but I wonder how easy it will be to drink as a table beverage in due course? You cannot escape 15% ABV. The combination of high alcohol, high acid, and abundant tannin does slightly dry and harden the tannins on the finish— for me at least. Clearly very fine wine, but with reservations... both moving, and slightly divisive? And I suspect it will take longer to mellow than one might imagine. 2032–50. | 93–94
