Simon Field | Deeper straw color; nose of almond and green fruit, a little subdued. There is an orchard- fruit character to the palate, with hints of sherbet and litchi; the overall impression disappoints a little, though unusually this one may just need a few more months to reveal its hand. | 87
Andrew Jefford | Bright, clear yellow. A slightly odd aromatic profile, but in fact Viognier in this unique appellation can head off in strange directions and charm nonetheless—pear skin, quince, cracked white pepper. On the palate, it has acidity and cream, though the two are a little dissociated. It lacks some overt summer fruit and classical flamboyance but retains seriousness and concentration. | 85
John Livingstone-Learmonth | Yellow robe with some full glints in it. The bouquet has scale, isn’t fully out yet, and suggests a wine that can live and evolve over time. There’s a compote of white-fruits aroma, stewed fruits, plum, and banana in the mix. It has a rather southern oiliness. The palate provides texture, a glycerol lining that sets it up well for monkfish, sauced turbot, or lobster. It’s a little tucked up at present and should be considered as a wine to revert to around 2020, decanting it and setting up a good table alongside. This is stylish, well- nuanced Condrieu. 2024–25. | 93
