Simon Field | Pale color and a distinctive nose of gorse and greengage, even a whisper of kerosene. Precocious and a little metallic on the mid-palate, its putative generosity still maybe to unravel, but I wonder if there is the fundamental concentration to elevate this to the premier rank? | 85
Andrew Jefford | Very pale old gold. Softly vegetal, sweet and rounded, but it lacks a little aromatic finesse compared to the best of its peers. There’s almost a minty/methoxypyrazine note, indeed; some kind of canopy-management issue here? On the palate, it has a marked “freshness” (higher acidity than many, and more aromatic minty coolness), but it is deep and close-grained; perhaps this individuality of style is site-related? A good Condrieu for those who find the rich and flamboyant style just a bit too baroque to enjoy. | 88
John Livingstone-Learmonth | A hint of cloudiness in a yellow robe, a hint of pear skin. Reserved, brooding, stewed white-fruits aroma, butter and flan outriders. The palate is broad and wholesome, very much in the here and now for drinking, gathers a little tannin on the finish, which is firm, solid. Honest artisan wine, sauced vieille France cuisine suited to this. Decanting helpful. 2021. | 88
