Simon Field | The rather clumsy nose, outmaneuvered by the recollection of potential, is somewhat stentorian, its call undermined by, and undermining of, the richly generous potential of the vineyard in question. | 86
Andrew Jefford | Pale steel-gold. Grainy and mealy but lacks a little aromatic relief. Almost a touch oniony. A little bit clumsy and without much charm— and what is Condrieu without charm? Perfectly drinkable nonetheless. | 80
John Livingstone-Learmonth | Refined yellow hue. The nose has a “high” aspect to its fruit, an air of peanut and damp wool, something I associate with aged Condrieu. It’s not as varied or stimulating as the leaders, and it isn’t quite convincing as a whole. The palate reflects the nose, withatouch of white fruit, a hint of mineral. It reminds me of Grillet at a stage when the wine is hunkered down. There’s enough here to tick over for some years to come, so I would set it aside until 2020 or so. Decanting good. There’s some finesse in the fruit, which is encouraging, and the length is assured. 2026–27. | 90
