Neil Beckett | Although this is from a very favorably situated parcel in Meursault, between Clos des Perrières and the Château de Meursault's Perrières, it was planted for the first time only in 1977, having been a quarry before then, and hence was not classified as anything grander than Bourgogne—an historical anomaly resulting in a great opportunity for savvy Burgundy lovers to find excellent value. Brilliant pale lemon-gold. Aromatically clean, cool, pure, and restrained, with perfectly ripe white stone fruit and a hint of hay sweetness from very well-integrated oak. Well-preserved acidity animates the palate, which has excellent balance, harmony, and tenacity, the lightest phenolic bitterness and pink-grapefruit pithiness contributing definition and extending the finish. Utterly exceptional, as the name suggests, and as far as could be from most Bourgogne blanc. | 92
