Bruno Besa | Pale garnet to light tawny. Clean, elegant, intense, complex small-red-fruits nose, with a refined floral character. The blood-orange and fresh-herb nose gives way to a medium-bodied, weightless palate, with red currants and a fresh mint finish. A very inviting wine, despite the slightly lean palate. | 91
Stephen Brook | A delicate strawberry nose, with some floral tones that confer elegance. A lighter style, sleek but attenuated, with tannins that seem too bold for the fruit. But I think this may be deceptive, because there is a strong core of red fruits and no lack of grip. It should shed this youthful surliness and become more expressive. The acidity sneaks up on the finish, which is reasonably long and persuasive. Overall, it could use more concentration of fruit, so it may not be for long cellaring. | 89
Andrew Jefford | Bright, light, clear garnet red. Sweet, refined, graceful, and aerial, with very lovely rose, cream, plum, pomegranate, mushroom, and roast-meat aromas. A lot of allusions, but in fact there are the subtlest of hints, and there is nothing forceful or overt about this wine’s aromatic presence. In the mouth, it is light, graceful, open, and very nearly silky, so finely milled are the tannins; the acidity has equal structuring force here. Lovely, graceful, eminently sippable Barbaresco—yet not quite as aromatically complex in the mouth as the aromas suggested it would be. Very fine, nonetheless. 2018–23. | 91
