BUY THE WINE

Andrew Jefford | Pale gold at this stage, indeed barely beyond green: eerily youthful. Sweet and subtle, though restrained, grassy, fresh, clean, cucumber and lanolin, with a little grind of nutmeg. Classy aromas, very understated. Super-rich on the palate, and super-acidic, too, though as almost always with Scheurebe, the acidity is ripe and glowing. Indeed, it is this gigantic sumo-like clench between ripe acidity and super-saturated sweetness that dominates the wine to the exclusion of pretty much everything else at this stage, so you would have to say that it is very young and has a lot of life ahead. A touch of musk? Maybe. Grapefruit? Not really. Other spices? Not really. Let’s wait and see. | 92

Anne Krebiechl | There is an earthy, almost phenolic edge to the fully botrytized nose of this wine. With more air, its blossom-honey nature shines through and eases into the most concentrated, intense palate that combines intense sweetness with citrus-edged sharpness of super-charged passion fruit. A most intense package of concentrated, bundled, sharp sweetness. | 94

Stephan Reinhardt | Clear, bright, and concentrated on the reductive and spicy nose, this is an elegant, piquant, and even salty Scheurebe, with a concentrated apricot fruit and a tight and grippy finish. Pretty sweet, and there is a 1970s spirit to this wine that might be exciting in the neighborhood—but beyond? I find the wine quite old-fashioned, but at least it’s the best sweet Scheurebe of this tasting... Even so, don’t give it to me even if I am 64, please. | 88
