BUY THE WINE

Andrew Jefford | Another white trying to pretend it is water—but we’re not fooled! Sweet pumice and talc on the nose, but little fruit. On the palate, it is well-made, lively, pungent and zesty, with a musky spice note which underscores its varietal identity. Pure, long, lean, with typically searching yet rich Scheurebe acidity; lime and musk on finish. It’s the aperitif style, but a very good incarnation of that, though the qualities of the wine are more apparent on the palate than on the nose. | 89

Anne Krebiechl | Freshly cut Mirabelle, apple and lemon make for a fruity nose. The palate comes in with a welcome, spiky freshness, tempered by some residual sugar. The palate is light and easy, fruit-driven but zesty to the end. Very refreshing, very lively. | 89

Stephan Reinhardt | Reductive but deep, tight, and dense on the nose, this remarkable Scheurebe is as earthy and flinty as bright and powerful, with some gooseberry aromas. Quite Keuper-like, but I wouldn’t bet on that. Elegant, straight, and fresh on the piquant and salty palate, this is a tense, refreshing, and refined Scheurebe that is kissing Riesling in a way, and surely its terroir, too. A great wine that can be aged for up to 20 years. | 93
