Andrew Jefford | Very faint gold with bubbles clinging to the sides of the glass. A decidedly perfumey style, with lots of rose and some lily and jasmine, too. There’s just a little cattiness here, as if the wine has 3% or 5% labrusca in it. (The Scheurebe cattiness can seem quite close to the labrusca foxiness you encounter in Finger Lakes on occasion.) Intense, very characterful, rather low-acid and ripe, with lots of perfumed exoticism but a rather dry, salty, warm sort of finish. I like the way the producer has embraced the uninhibited style of Scheurebe here, but it is a slightly wacky wine at the end of the day, lacking the kind of balance you need for drinkability and poise. | 85
Anne Krebiechl | A whiff of blackcurrant leaf on the nose is supplanted by bright notes of yellow Mirabelle plum on the nose. The palate broadens rather than tapers and loses some definition in the process. But there is lovely balance between fruit and freshness. | 89
Stephan Reinhardt | Very young and fruit-intense on the nose, this is a powerful, intense, and pretty rich Scheu, with lots of alcohol and piquancy. Not fully dry, but pretty dry. | 89
