BUY THE WINE

Andrew Jefford | Saturated dark black-red. Sweet, dried-grain aromas have the upper hand over fruit at present, but there is also a perfumed poise here; young wine that needs six months or a year to settle down? It’s just a little raw now. On the palate, it is textured and deep, classy, supple, beautifully ripe and long, really a special effort for the vintage —and more than that, a second wine of merit regardless of the vintage. But like a talented adolescent, it does need longer to sort itself out. (This is a little more challenging than the Capbern, though the Capbern almost merits an identical score for its flesh and sensual appeal.) 2018–25. | 91

Michael Schuster | Ripe red-fruit nose; full-bodied wine with a firm tannin and lively acidity; austere just now, but a wine with a good length of flavor and aftertaste; tannic and vital for the present, and needing years to mellow. 2026–35+. | 90
