Stephen Brook | Rich orange and barley-sugar nose, with ample botrytis and opulence. This is the somewhat blatant Arche style, and very impressive it is. There’s a fine attack, with racy acidity to puncture the orangey fruit. The alcohol is a bit obtrusive, however, and this robs the wine of some finesse. And despite the acidity, there is a slight lack of persistence and drive on the finish, which has a boiled-sweets character. But a good wine, hedonistic but balanced. | 91
Andrew Jefford | Full gold. Richly buttered sweetness, with big spoonfuls of crème anglaise. Lush and full; very attractive. Weighty, lush, and unctuous on the palate: a hugely generous d’Arche, with ample honey, buttered almond, peach and peach-skin and nougatine richness. Fresh acidity keeps it all buoyant. A great buy if well priced. 2018–28 | 92
