Alison Buchanan: Very dark, mahogany, withatight, dark, tawny rim, this has the appearance of fig or prune juice. The nose is also more of the fig and prune than the vine, extraordinarily intense with an earthy backdrop. The palate is, finally, essence of liquid chocolate raisins, Christmas pudding, and mince pies all in the one glass. Poured over homemade ice cream this would work beautifully—dramatically rich as a drink, however. | 86
Andrew Jefford: A black wine with a green wink to it: midnight in the garden of good and evil. A heavy swirler, and slow to gather its legs from the sides of the glass. Then comes a relatively quiet scent of syrup of raisins and engine oil, plus some banana skin: intriguing, but there are more complex aromas on the table. Super-weighty on the palate, and well up to the standard set by Jerez PX, but so thunderously super-sweet and just not much else in there... Some will love it, it’s a wine-world monument; but honestly it’s too much for me. However, this is a very good wine, and there are some burned and burnished complexities just visible toward the end of the palate, so my score reflects that. | 90
Margaret Rand: Back to black, with a greenish rim. Classic PX style: very thick and concentrated, savory and grassy fruit, intense, powerful, dense. There are raisins at the heart, chewy and dense. Imposing and impressive. One glass would be plenty. | 92
