Jesús Barquín | Deep, almost opaque cherry. Complex if slightly closed nose with an animal whiff, floral notes, and some oak presence. The palate is tight, unable to develop those aromas further. Finish is aggressive. A hard-to-rate wine in blind conditions because there is good substance and potential, but right now it is too tight. | 88
Andrew Jefford | Saturated, dense black-purple in color. Fresh and lively scents, withatarry, savory note. Lots of acidity on the palate, with a slightly livid, raw style. It’s matched by texture and some depth of fruit, so is not unbalanced. A good wine, but without the purity and finesse of the very best of its peers. We tried a second bottle, which seemed to me slightly less raw and livid, with sweeter fruit, and I have amended the score up a little. | 88
Richard Mayson | Deep youthful and opaque; rather a musty- sweaty character to the nose (TCA?), overlying the fruit. The second bottle was much the same; better on the palate but with some rather casky rusticity underlying; unbalanced, with a dry tannic finish. | 74
