Michael Edwards | A big vineyard investment by Latour in the Bas-Beaujolais, below Villeurbanne. A land of pretty golden stone villages, the vineyards traditionally the home of much basic Beaujolais. The soils are not based on granite but limestone-clay, so are much more suitable for Pinot Noir than Gamay. Under new rules, the wine can be called Bourgogne Rouge. Of purple ruby, this has real structure, robust fruit, good acidity, and will age well for a few years. Considerable potential as a house wine for far-sighted restaurateurs. Value. | 87?
