Michel Bettane and Thierry Desseauve: Given another 20 years, this wine will show a finesse and complexity on the nose that is well worth waiting for. So don’t be put off by that hint of green bell peppers suggesting Cabernet Sauvignon grapes that were not quite as ripe as they should be – unfashionable and unacceptable though that is these days. Note, however, that there is nothing in the least bit grassy about this wine. What you have here is, in fact, a pristine, ultra-precise expression of a late-maturing September vintage. The wine is well balanced, admirably constituted and displaying a degree of finesse that places it at the top of the Médoc non-classed growths. 17
Margaret Rand: A disappointing wine from this normally ultra-reliable property. It lacks real concentration of fruit, though there’s no shortage of tannin. 14
Michael Schuster: Slightly herbaceous edge to the fruit on nose and palate. Medium-weight wine with a very chewy tannic texture from both the wood and the grape. Good fruit underneath the tannin, and good fruit length, too, but it looks like a tough proposition at present. 14+?
