BUY THE WINE

Michel Bettane and Thierry Desseauve: A fresh, frank, impeccably chiselled wine – very Margaux-like in profile and tannic personality. Possibly finishes a tad drier than some of the other wines, but definitely the best wine from this estate in the past 50 years. 15.5

Margaret Rand: A property slowly edging up but still not in danger of catching its next-door neighbour. The fruit is supple and the tannins are under control, and there’s good concentration and a promising density to the texture. 16

Michael Schuster: Crisp Cabernet fruit to smell. Medium-full, moderately concentrated wine with a firm tannin. Very nice fresh ripe fruit, quite complex and long in the mouth and with good length, too. Still some way from the best second growths, but the classiest Rauzan-Gassies for a very long time. Possibly very good value. 15.5
