BUY THE WINE

Michel Bettane and Thierry Desseauve: Like the Arche, this is another Sauternes with a strange whiff of nutmeg. A rich wine, but currently too overpoweringly aromatic. 13.5

Margaret Rand: Rich, roasted, sweet, concentrated, with some botrytis. Complex, with a powerful finish of apricots, nuts and raisins. 17.5

Michael Schuster: Strong citrus and new-oak vanilla/ coconut nose. Rich, quite concentrated wine with a good, rather than a vigorous, acidity. Sweet, round, fruity, pleasing flavour, but without much mid-palate complexity and a fairly short finish. Not bad, but barely a premier cru performance. 15
