BUY THE WINE

Michel Bettane and Thierry Desseauve: A wine that seems as rich as the La Tour-Blanche but better balanced, with a more complex character. Neither the freshness nor the class of the Coutet, but monumental nonetheless, with not a trace of heaviness and nothing much to touch it in Sauternes (except for the Fargues, the Suduiraut and, of course, the Yquem). 18.5

Margaret Rand: A disappointing wine from this property. The concentration is respectable and so is the finish, but at the moment it doesn’t really seem to be up to Rieussec standards. 15.5

Michael Schuster: Dense, citrus fruit and new-oak nose – showy but fine. Rich and concentrated, with a particularly lively, appetising acidity. Intensely sweet, vivid, exciting flavour; aristocratic, beautifully defined, magnificent length. Enormous class; quite lovely Rieussec. 18/18.5
