Oz Clarke: Fairly deep, young red. Not bad stuff, a slightly rasping tannic wine – how many more times will I say that today? – but there is some pretty good full plum and vaguely black-cherry fruit, and there’s some attractive spice and mint. Interestingly, the rasp of the tannin fades into the fruit if you give it time in your mouth. So, foursquare but pretty good. 16
Alex Hunt: Inky colour, tightly wound cassis nose, reminiscent of very young ripe Bordeaux. Tannic but well proportioned, this is still unknit and demands cellaring, but there is already depth and complexity emerging. Tremendously expressive. 17.5
Margaret Rand: Difficult to get much on the nose of this – it’s very dark and ungiving. The palate is tight and muscular – I could say brooding, but I won’t – and the fruit is black and pruney: dried figs, raisins. It needs time but promises well: the balance is there and there’s a lot of extraction but probably not too much. The tannin seems under control. But I’m not sure about the length: it doesn’t seem quite all it should be for a wine of these dimensions. 16
