Oz Clarke: Not bad. Good, quite rich black-plum and blackcurrant fruit and quite strong clove and kitchen spice and a bit of pepper-rasp tannin. Good, solid attractive fruit. Not thrilling but good fruit and spice and fair tannin – an attractive, gently fruity style with attractive savoury scent and very pleasant fruit. Balanced, enjoyable and even a little black-fruit and savoury complexity. 17.5
Alex Hunt: Ah, the Rutherford Dust! There it is – a sprinkling of mineral elegance on the butch black fruit typical of this district. This is a very full-bodied, very backward wine that needs plenty of time to find its feet. The concentration is more in fruit than in tannin, which is a relief given the wine’s size, and should result in a very opulent drink in five years’ time. 16.5
Margaret Rand: Soft, simple coffee fruit. The finish is fair, a bit cooked, not huge flavour. The dimensions are big, but not the ingredients. 14
