Oz Clarke: Slightly deeper red than the Ravenswood. Pleasantly round fruit with a little spice. Palate not bad. Fairly full and some evident tannin. It isn’t exciting – it’s a little foursquare – but there’s decent plum and cherry fruit, the acid’s nice and the tannin not too intrusive. Again, not exciting but fairly good; somewhat one-dimensional. Later, some mint and black-cherry jam. This one needs an hour or two to open up – don’t they all? 15
Alex Hunt: Attractive oak, closed young dark fruit. Plump entry, juicy mid-palate, raw on the finish at this stage, but should come together in a couple of years. Despite low acid, this promises attractive purity. 16
Margaret Rand: Perfumed, tarry, a touch vegetal – though not green – vigorous, youthful. Exciting wine, though without the polish of the Ravenswood. The finish is slightly toffeed – very slightly – and while I’m giving it a lower mark now, it may turn out better in the end. 15
