Neil Beckett: Almost cassis-like intensity and richness on the nose, without being at all raw, and it stands up well to the wood (100 per cent new for the concentrated wine from these 65-year- old vines). Masses of black fruit on the palate, too, but so closely packed that the flavours are difficult to separate out. Strong finish. No rough edges, but this still needs a good five years to open up.
