Neil Beckett: Very intense medium ruby. Arresting, lifted nose, of great allure – beautifully controlled, pure, raspberry and violets, like very focused tight young Port, ripe and succulent. Medium-bodied, with dense, fine-grained but richly structured tannins, under which the brilliantly expressive fruit is briefly submerged. Unusually for this vintage, though, it rises to the surface again and is still there on the long, dry (but far from dried-out) finish. Difficult to believe that Auxey-Duresses gets any better than this. Beautifully poised wine of great integrity that will continue to unfurl for five to ten years and always represent spectacular value.
