BUY THE WINE

Nicolas Belfrage: Very oaky modern style, no great Sangiovese character. An unfortunate case of a wine overcome by oak, but it redeems itself on the finish. 14

Stephen Brook: Deep red. Lean cherry and cassis nose, quite stylish. Medium-bodied, fresh, delicate, no heavyweight. Just a touch lazy, but pleasant and ready to drink. Rather short. 13.5

Alison Buchanan: Deep plum /cherry, with a dark-cherry rim - good colour. Lovely nose. Stewed black-fruit and spice notes. The palate mirrors these notes - dark fruit, with well-integrated tannins, dark chocolate and spice. Mid-length chocolate finish. This needs some time. Fresh, but a bit of a sledgehammer of new oak, vanilla and coffee. The oak allows me to mark down, but I assume that this is a heavy wine with a matching price. 15
