BUY THE WINE

Simon Field: Dense inky colour, with scents that are subtle and pleasingly aromatic. A hint of lift (but positive lift), and tar and spice also evidenced on the nose. The palate is firm, robust, tannic and powerful. Black fruits and powerful, grippy tannins and pepper. A magisterial and somewhat immature wine. 18

Andrew Jefford: This is a deep, dark, black-hued wine that promises well. Tight, brooding, lots of blackcurrant and moist liquorice. Promising if not yet opening up in the full bloom of its adult articulacy. Dense, dark, lovely grippy tannins, this (thank God) is properly made, properly pounded Vintage Port with a bit of stuffing for the long term. Plenty of sumptuous black fruits and lovely Christmas (cinnamon and clove) spice beginning to creep into the equation. Worth investing in. Bravo! 18

Richard Mayson: Very deep, dark opaque colour, withathin purple rim. Lovely ripe mulberry fruit on the nose, with more still to give. Rich, ripe fleshy fruit backed by firm tight-knit tannins. Concentration and a peacock’s tail on the finish. Drink now (just) to 2030 plus. 18.5
