Stephen Brook: Hefty caramelly nose, no finesse. Very sweet and opulent, clearly Auslese in style; thick and fruity but no elegance here and somewhat overblown; medium length. 13

Andrew Jefford: Full gold. Odd: rather tired and oxidised by the lights of this tasting. Scents of straw and baked fruits. Certainly a different style. Super-rich - well over Pradikat yet again, but I rather wonder what the point is here. There is acidity to balance, but the fruit has lost its wondrous freshness and gossamer charm, and the acidity just serves to bolt the sweetness in place. 11

Jancis Robinson: Quite deep gold. Quite exceptionally ripe aromas - much more Auslese than Spatlese in character - golden syrup plus cabbage. So ripe, it is actually rather unappetising. This wine has lost the vital spark of fresh, fruity acidity that is so vital to German wine. A South African wine producer might be glad to produce such a wine, but a lover of German wines would be disappointed by its flab. Drink 2007-11.13
