Located just across the A7 motorway from the Château itself—and therefore, by implication, far from dissimilar in style—Coudoulet is a most engaging younger sibling, dominated by Grenache but with Mourvèdre playing an increasingly significant role—just as in Beaucastel itself, by a not entirely curious coincidence. The aging in foudre is only six months, however, and the aspiration is for a quick but far from inconsequential seduction. Ruby-crimson, plush color, then a nose of crushed raspberry, plum, graphite, and soft spice. The palate is equally appealing, forward and generous, but with grip and length, deferential to both vintage and the wine itself, up and outstanding both. | 90
